Welcome to Cheltenham Stories. This is site is a record of the work of our writing group over many years. Currently nobody can be bothered to organise actual meetings at the moment, so it is what we call ‘gone fallow’. If someone wants to take up the challenge, they will have our blessing.
In the meantime, this old site has lots of interesting and useful resources and ideas for people who write. Help yourselves.
I say ‘people who write’ rather than ‘people who want to write’ because … writers write. They don’t go on never-ending courses, they don’t sign up to websites, they don’t become mesmerised by BookTok, they don’t queue up for hours to see television personalities discussing the novels what they wrote, they don’t buy lots of notebooks and leave them blank, they don’t spend hours discussing software, they don’t plan multi-volume titles based on other people’s fictional universes and they don’t allow the thought of other people’s opinions or achievements to stop them expressing themselves.
Well, most of us do all those things at some time, but in the end, if self-expression is essential for your being, you will do it. And you will start now. Trust me, it will make you feel good. I didn’t write creatively for years because I thought I’d never be as good as Jane Austen or James Joyce. Well, I tried being the best me I could and I’m happy with that.
